Cactus flowers and cactus wine?

When I was up on top of Mangere Mountain listening to Kylie and Anau talk about the Water Care sewage treatment, I remember visiting the sewage treatment plant. My husband is a water resources engineer, and this is the place he takes me to.

I saw these lovely cactus.

They look lovely, but they are invasive. In Australia driving in the country side one can see huge ones, at a time they were a big menace taking over huge areas. Farmers had the "great" idea to fence their paddocks with them and so they went out of hand.

Do you eat the fruit, Ann? Some people love it and it is very good for the health. However, the cactus and fruit has some nasty little barbs and you must peel it carefully with knife and fork.
